Over 20 years DIESEL Motorsports has canceled many events based on weather, surrounding conditions, and emergency concerns regarding Mother Nature.
Many people whoop and holler about it online whether we were right or wrong, but the real decision comes down to who is putting on the event/promoter! We have many factions we have to consider: weather being one, vendors safety/damage, DM safety/damage, attendance & safety, and people's property!
At our events the vehicles brought for the shows sometimes are $200-300,000 each with many of the show vehicles in the $100,000 range! As a passionate person of motorsports, I for one, do NOT want to see damage to these vehicles! Much less, the enthusiast/competitor who brought them. Mother Nature can literally rain all kinds of damage down on an event in such a short time and 30 minutes later the sun comes out!
It is a hard one to call, but somebody has to do it. We all want to have fun and enjoy our sport, but when it does go wrong every one suffers!
There is one thing I have easily found out, you can not fight or predict Mother Nature! Most of us know the weatherman is the only person on earth who can retain their job with a 50% success/prediction rate!
This last week a promoter in Lake Ozark, Missouri planned a perfect event Bike Fest(motorcycle) at the Lake with lots of vendors. Nothing serious from the weather stations predicted, occasional scattered shower but mostly sunny and hot (80-90s degrees).
Out of no where a storm popped up with straight line winds, heavy rain and lots of damage (roofs blown off of building force)! Total destruction to the show (photos by customers below)! What a blow to the poor promoter and vendors, bikers and enthusiasts who showed up that day. 30 minutes later the sun came out with a rainbow over the event.
NO ONE can predict these natural happenings that spring up but be cognitive and supportive of the people who hold the events and strive to protect all aspects of these shows.
Yes, many people picked up their destroyed popups, and merchandise and will continue on with the show! There is always our people who love the sport so much they continue on for the long haul.
DIESEL Motorsports has held events in every part of our beautiful country and yes, we love good weather and people! The one thing you can count on is you can always live for another nice day for an event if you cancel, sometimes it is hard to come back from a destructive storm at an event. I have moved weekends, dates and locations trying to dodge weather. It works sometime and others it did not work.
